It has just been announced that ShopAppy has been shortlisted for the 2018 NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards in the Service Industries of the Year award. ShopAppy beat off some tough competition in order to make the regional shortlist, with a record number of businesses entering the awards nationally across the wide range of categories.
Now in its sixth year, the NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards has celebrated some amazing entrepreneurs over the years, many of whom are now household names. Past winners include David Buttress of Just Eat, Julie Deane OBE of The Cambridge Satchel Company, James Watt of BrewDog and most recently, Hannah and Sophie Pycroft of Spectrum Collections.
Founder of ShopAppy, Jackie Mulligan said “I am delighted to be a finalist for this prestigious award. ShopAppy is a new and fast growing enterprise and we have fought hard to help towns and independent businesses at one of the most challenging environments for high street retail in history. We are committed to providing a local alternative for how people shop so we can keep our high streets, markets and town centres alive and vibrant. The shortlisting has helped to recognise ShopAppy as the solution for local shopping online and will help us as more towns join this shop local movement over the coming months.”
Creator of the Awards, Francesca James, said: “We have been inundated with some incredible entries this year, and all shortlisted applicants should be extremely proud of themselves! This year has yet again seen a record number of entrants and we’ve been absolutely blown away by the strength and diversity of applications.” “We cannot wait to celebrate entrepreneurship across Great Britain with them, and put a spotlight on the incredible talent within the British entrepreneur ecosystem.” Gordon Merrylees, Head of Entrepreneurship at NatWest said: “Following another record-breaking year, I want to thank all of the entrepreneurs who entered and congratulate those who have been shortlisted, I look forward to seeing them at the regional finals.” “Entrepreneurial spirit is still clearly alive and well, and NatWest is thrilled to be able to continue to support these awards to celebrate success with the businesses that are the lifeblood of the UK Economy as they start, scale and succeed.” The NatWest Great British Entrepreneur Awards will celebrate entrepreneurship across a number of categories at 5 gala finals across the UK, including; Cardiff, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Manchester & London. ShopAppy.com is a website and app that was created to revive British High Streets by providing an alternative to supermarkets and online retail giants, allowing customers to browse and buy local products online. A simple click-and-collect service allows people to buy from their local shops 24/7 and pick goods up from out-of-hours collection points, usually a pub or other evening opening venue.
The site doesn’t take commission on sales and encourages shoppers to look at what amazing things are on their doorstep. It is the brainchild of Dr. Jackie Mulligan, a former academic and a shop local fan from Saltaire, West Yorkshire. Her motivation was to give every independent shop in every local town a 24-hour shop window and the power of a superstore by having all the local products in one place online.
